Swiss Mechatronics Talk: From Feedforward to Learning Control

How can highly precise motion be achieved when conventional control approaches reach their limits? At the upcoming Swiss Mechatronics Talk, Max Rech, Chief Competence Center Motion at cross-ING, will demonstrate how machine learning is opening up new possibilities in control engineering.


In precise servo applications, feedback-based error correction alone is often not sufficient. At the same time, conventional feedforward control can reach its limits – particularly when complex effects such as hysteresis come into play and the real behaviour of a system cannot be adequately represented by traditional physical models.


This is where Learning Control comes in. Instead of relying exclusively on predefined models, systems can learn their dynamics during operation. This makes it possible to account for complex system behaviour, reduce delays and achieve greater precision.


Practical insights from our Competence Center Motion

As part of the Swiss Mechatronics Talk, Max Rech, Chief Competence Center Motion at cross-ING, will provide practical insights into “From Feedforward to Learning Control”. He will explain where conventional control engineering reaches its limits and how machine learning can help bridge the gap.

Max Rech has a background in electrical and mechanical engineering with a focus on control engineering and many years of professional experience in the field. At cross-ING, he heads the Competence Center Motion, which supports companies with challenges related to motion systems, positioning, control and vibration.
