Vision Systems for Robots – Advancing Automation: Innovations in 2D and 3D Imaging for Robotic Vision

On 9 September 2025, an exciting workshop on the topic of vision systems for robots took place at the University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons. Organised by the University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons, OST – University of Applied Sciences of Eastern Switzerland, Swissphotonics and Swissmem Photonics Booster, the event brought together experts from research and industry. The aim was to discuss the latest developments, challenges and specific applications of image processing technologies in robotics. We were there!

Are you optimising your productivity?

In an increasingly digitalised world, vision systems for stationary and mobile robots are opening up revolutionary possibilities in automation.

Example 1: Robots that work with carers to help patients get drinks and their medication – and there are specific pilot projects, e.g. in a senior citizens' centre.

Example 2: A vision system monitors whether the prescribed personal protective equipment – such as helmets, safety goggles and high-visibility vests – is being worn in production.

Features of vision systems for industry that are constantly being improved include accuracy, cost efficiency, further integration of modern technologies such as AI, and human-robot collaboration as a whole.

The workshop in Chur clearly demonstrated that vision systems are no longer a thing of the future, but rather a decisive factor in the competitiveness of modern companies. Whether in healthcare, manufacturing or other industries, the possible applications are diverse. At cross-ING, we are happy to assist you in harnessing this potential for your company.
