Partner Meeting in Zurich: Where Strategy Meets Engineering in Practice

Business review, cross-regional planning and a fascinating look behind the scenes of Zurich’s public transport system: At our latest partner meeting, the partners of the cross-ING Group came together at our new location at Pfingstweidstrasse 106 in Zurich.

The meeting focused on our business review as well as the ongoing cross-regional planning and development of the cross-ING Group. These regular face-to-face meetings provide an opportunity to reflect on current developments, share experiences across our different locations and align on the next steps for the Group.

After the strategic part of the meeting and lunch together at Restaurant Casino in Zurich-Altstetten, we shifted our focus from planning to engineering in practice.

Behind the scenes at VBZ

During a two-hour guided tour of the central workshop of Verkehrsbetriebe Zürich (VBZ), we gained fascinating insights into the maintenance, repair and reproduction of components for around 220 trams as well as numerous buses operating throughout Zurich every day.

What impressed us most was the remarkable depth of in-house expertise and manufacturing capabilities. When spare parts are no longer available from the original manufacturers, the workshop develops its own solutions and, where necessary, reproduces components in-house. This enables vehicles and systems to remain reliably in operation for exceptionally long periods – in some cases with life cycles of up to 50 years.

As an engineering company, this was particularly interesting for us. It demonstrated just how important technical expertise, forward-looking maintenance and the ability to continuously develop existing systems are when it comes to keeping complex infrastructure operational over decades.

From engineering to entrepreneurship

The cross-ING Group continues to grow – together with people who not only want to shape the future of engineering but are also ready to take on entrepreneurial responsibility.
