From University Research to the International Stage: Project Supported by cross-ING Impresses Expert Jury

Engineering for Space Applications: Research Project Supported by cross-ING Receives International Recognition

We are proud to see a research project of  Joel Tan, supported by cross-ING gaining recognition on both national and international levels.

A bachelor's thesis developed in collaboration with cross-ING AG,  ETH Zürich, the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), and ARIS has been nominated as one of the top three projects for the  CADFEM Europe Academic Award Schweiz. In addition, the research has been accepted for presentation at the 77th International Astronautical Conference (IAC) 2026 in Antalya, one of the world's leading events for the global space community.

The project focused on the simulation-based design and analysis of additively manufactured coaxial swirl injectors for bi-liquid rocket engines. Combining experimental investigations with advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations, the work explored complex atomization processes and spray behavior to support the development of next-generation propulsion systems.

cross-ING contributed to the project through the involvement of Dr. Markus Schmidt as supervisor and co-author. The collaboration brought together academic research and industrial engineering expertise, demonstrating how advanced simulation technologies can accelerate innovation in highly demanding engineering applications.

The nomination for the CADFEM Europe Academic Award and the acceptance of the paper at IAC 2026 highlight the quality of the research and the value of close cooperation between industry and academia.
